Eckerö Line celebrating its 30th anniversary: Turnover increased by 16%, the milestone of two million passengers was exceeded in 2023

Eckerö Line today announced information about its financial development in 2023. The company's turnover was 140 million Euros, an increase of 16% from 2022. The year was also successful by other means. Last year, Eckerö Line’s passenger volume passed the two million passenger milestone for the first time. The market share of cargo operations also increased. 60% of the cargo transported by Eckerö Line already goes through Vuosaari Harbour, reducing congestion in the centre of Helsinki and Tallinn.

"We managed to increase our turnover, passenger volume and cargo business in 2023. Our thank you for this goes to our customers, who show their appreciation for the quality of the service we offer. I would also like to thank our entire personnel for their commitment. It is a great honour that Eckerö Line has once again been ranked among the top ten companies in the Great Place to Work survey in the large company category", comments the CEO of Eckerö Line Taru Keronen.

With operations on the Baltic Sea, environmental responsibility and sustainable shipping are essential to Eckerö Line’s business. The company is committed to responsibility goals such as reducing carbon dioxide emissions and supporting the protection and research of the Baltic Sea. Actual measures can be seen, for example, on M/s Finlandia, which underwent several major changes to reduce fuel consumption and climate emissions in early 2024. New rudders and propeller blades were installed on the ship, and with the help of these and other modifications, the targeted emission reduction of 6% has already been achieved.

In 30 years, Eckerö Line has grown into a major player on the Baltic Sea

This year Eckerö Line celebrates its 30th anniversary on the Baltic Sea. "We are proud and happy that we have been able to serve both Finns and Estonians for three decades. It has been a privilege to connect these two countries, their people and freight traffic," rejoices Keronen.

The company has grown into a major player in passenger and cargo traffic on the Baltic Sea. Eckerö Line started operating on the Helsinki-Tallinn route in 1994. From the beginning, the company has operated under the Finnish flag. Initially, the company was known as Eestin Linjat, which was changed to Eckerö Line in 1997.

Eckerö Line is celebrating its 30th anniversary by, among other things, organizing special festive cruises on Fridays in the autumn, the Decades Parties. These cruises offer passengers an opportunity to enjoy popular artists from Eckerö Line's different decades, starting with the 90s. More detailed information about these Decades Parties, artists, schedules and ticket lotteries will be published later.

"Growth is not possible without satisfied customers. Finnish travellers voted Eckerö Line first in a survey that measured customer satisfaction of Finnish passengers on the route between Finland and Estonia.* We would like to thank our customers and personnel for three decades. We will continue to invest in high-quality and enjoyable sea voyages, and we will promote sustainable and responsible shipping", concludes Keronen.

* The result is part of EPSI Rating’s industry research on ship travel, which charted customer experience and satisfaction of shipping companies operating between Finland and Estonia, as well as between Finland and Sweden (incl. Åland Islands).
